Thanksgiving and what’s to come….

The holiday was actually nice. We spent Thanksgiving Day with my parents, Vanessa, Jose, and the mutts. Everyone got to share a little movie time with Kalyssa. She insisted that everyone had to watch Ice Age 3 and Monsters. Everyone loved the movies. I have never heard any of them laugh so hard especially my dad at a kids movie. Mom made a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner.  She made turkey, mashed potatoes, corn, deviled eggs, rolls, and so much more. (Great job mom!! It was delicious). We also celebrated Jose’s birthday a well. The cheesecake was good, but a little too rich.

Then on Friday, we went to the Thanksgiving gathering for Tim’s family. The food was great, but I really did not get to enjoy it all. Kalyssa played with a lot of the kids that were there, but I think we were waiting to get back home.  We spent the rest of the night just chilling out together. We watched television, some movies, and just lounged around. That was what I really needed. I have been working a lot and right before Thanksgiving I put in 29 hours in three days. So the resting is what I really needed.

We had originally planned on attending the candy and cookie weekend at Tim’s Aunts. However, we were unable to make it because I was asked to work to cover the parade. I wish I would have never done it. It just was not a good day. I decided I will not volunteer to work on my day off again. Maybe we can make it next year. I’m sure Kalyssa would have enjoyed that :)

Since we are rounding the end of November and the beginning of December, we have quit a bit going on soon. Kalyssa will be turning 3 on the 12th. We have a birthday party for her on the 13th. Hopefully this year more people will show up, but we will see. Then we have Christmas with Tim’s family on the 20th. Christmas day with family and then new years. I’m sure we will be busy with a lot of different things. Hopefully in between all of this, I can get up some Christmas craft ideas to share with everyone.

Have a great night!!!

Favorite Pixar Movies

I’ve always been a Pixar fan ever since the release of Toy Story back in 1995. Ever since, I’ve made it a point to watch each movie when it was released, whether it’s in the theater or at home. To date, I’ve seen 7 out of the 10 movies in the theater, while the last 3, Ratatouille, Wall•E, and Up were seen at home since we have a 2 year old and don’t get out to the movies as often as we used to. Hopefully, with Toy Story 3, we can go back to watching the movies in theaters as they’re released.

I haven’t been disappointed yet by Pixar, though some movies are more at the bottom of my list compared to others. Here’s my list, in order from favorite to “still good but least favorite”.

  1. Toy Story – The original movie that started it all. This movie also got my interest in computer animation and design, so it’s a win on both levels.
  2. Wall•E – Aside from the massive waste issues this deals with, I thought it was one of the best Pixar films. Hey, it had a robot!
  3. Cars – I’m not a NASCAR fan at all, just ask Jess. However, the storyline was excellent and the way it portrayed Route 66 was great.
  4. Up – A story about a grumpy old man having new adventures. I can definitely see myself this way when I’m 78 also.
  5. Finding Nemo – How can you not like a movie that has a fish with memory loss? Some parts were slow, but the animation makes up for it.
  6. Monsters, Inc - Lovable monsters that think humas are contaminated. Aside from the energy crisis issue they tackle, it’s a great family movie.
  7. Ratatouille – It’s a little long, but again, the animation and storyline make up for it. How can you not like talking rats that can cook?
  8. A Bug’s Life – I get the whole “ant and the grasshopper” storyline, but you can definitely tell Disney helped in this movie.
  9. The Incredibles – It’s a superhero movie with the Pixar animation. Not the best, but it’s a hell of a lot better than what’s out there.
  10. Toy Story 2 – I hate sequels, especially from Disney. That’s why this movie is last. The story was surprisingly good but it’s still a sequel.

I’m not looking forward to Toy Story 3 next summer, and I’m even a little worried about Cars 2 in 2011, especially now that Disney owns Pixar. I really do hate sequels to a movie, unless it was already designed from the beginning to be a trilogy or to at least continue on. Let’s hope Disney doesn’t have too much involvement in the creation of the movies in the future, otherwise I’ll stop watching them.

Actually, there’s a Pixar movie coming out in 2011 that deals with a princess as the main character. Come on Disney, you’ve beaten this princess storyline to death a million times over. Let the female play a lead role other than a princess for once, will you?

Old Schoolhouse

So living in a small town has it’s advantages sometimes, mainly for the historical aspect.

Here’s an old schoolhouse that was moved from one spot in town to the current location. It’s used for many things, such as Sunday concerts in the summer and even Santa sets up shop in December for the kids to visit.

Proposed wind farm site is too windy

RUMFORD, Maine – A wind-power company says a western Maine site it’s been looking at is too windy for turbines. First Wind’s Matthew Kearns told a public meeting in Rumford on Thursday that its proposed Black Mountain and North and South Twin mountains may not be viable.

The Sun Journal of Lewiston quotes Kearns as saying First Wind’s studies so far show that gusts atop Black Mountain are too strong for turbine engineering to handle, and that’s a problem for wind turbine bearings.

Kearns said the Massachusetts-based company would not propose wind towers on North and South Twin mountains even if it finds a turbine that could handle the strong winds on Black Mountain.

A separate wind power project is under construction on Record Hill in Roxbury, also near Rumford.

Um, ok.

Yankees

Congrats, New York. It's about damn time.

That’s right, we’re Yankee fans. Deal with it.

Thanks for saving the game, Mariano Rivera. I’m sure we really didn’t need to use you tonight, but it wouldn’t be a 9th inning without you.
