I’ve always been a Pixar fan ever since the release of Toy Story back in 1995. Ever since, I’ve made it a point to watch each movie when it was released, whether it’s in the theater or at home. To date, I’ve seen 7 out of the 10 movies in the theater, while the last 3, Ratatouille, Wall•E, and Up were seen at home since we have a 2 year old and don’t get out to the movies as often as we used to. Hopefully, with Toy Story 3, we can go back to watching the movies in theaters as they’re released.
I haven’t been disappointed yet by Pixar, though some movies are more at the bottom of my list compared to others. Here’s my list, in order from favorite to “still good but least favorite”.
- Toy Story – The original movie that started it all. This movie also got my interest in computer animation and design, so it’s a win on both levels.
- Wall•E – Aside from the massive waste issues this deals with, I thought it was one of the best Pixar films. Hey, it had a robot!
- Cars – I’m not a NASCAR fan at all, just ask Jess. However, the storyline was excellent and the way it portrayed Route 66 was great.
- Up – A story about a grumpy old man having new adventures. I can definitely see myself this way when I’m 78 also.
- Finding Nemo – How can you not like a movie that has a fish with memory loss? Some parts were slow, but the animation makes up for it.
- Monsters, Inc - Lovable monsters that think humas are contaminated. Aside from the energy crisis issue they tackle, it’s a great family movie.
- Ratatouille – It’s a little long, but again, the animation and storyline make up for it. How can you not like talking rats that can cook?
- A Bug’s Life – I get the whole “ant and the grasshopper” storyline, but you can definitely tell Disney helped in this movie.
- The Incredibles – It’s a superhero movie with the Pixar animation. Not the best, but it’s a hell of a lot better than what’s out there.
- Toy Story 2 – I hate sequels, especially from Disney. That’s why this movie is last. The story was surprisingly good but it’s still a sequel.
I’m not looking forward to Toy Story 3 next summer, and I’m even a little worried about Cars 2 in 2011, especially now that Disney owns Pixar. I really do hate sequels to a movie, unless it was already designed from the beginning to be a trilogy or to at least continue on. Let’s hope Disney doesn’t have too much involvement in the creation of the movies in the future, otherwise I’ll stop watching them.
Actually, there’s a Pixar movie coming out in 2011 that deals with a princess as the main character. Come on Disney, you’ve beaten this princess storyline to death a million times over. Let the female play a lead role other than a princess for once, will you?
